Airline Respirator Cascade Installations
The air line respirator
cascade systems supply breathing air for prolonged periods in hazardous
atmospheres, including IDLH conditions with approved pressure demand
respirators. The use of cascade cylinders to supply a constant flow
respirator is not recommended since the effective duration is reduced by
50% or more.
Air is supplied through
lengths of low pressure hose (up to 300 feet) connected to one or more
300 cu. ft. compressed air supply cylinders or to a fixed, plant air
supply system. Each cylinder will provide 3.5* hours of breathing air
for one person at a normal consumption rate of 1.5 cu. ft./min. By
using several manifolds, more than one person can work from a single air
supply.
Air supply cylinders contain 300 cu. ft. of air when charged to 2400 psi. at 70F. Cylinders
can be connected in series for a greater supply of air by using a Tee
and Pigtail configuration.
